Vidya Balan Walks Out Of Kamala Surayya’s Biopic Aami!
While there were a lot of speculations since the past few days about Vidya Balan not being a part of Kamala Surayya’s biopic anymore, her spokesperson has confirmed that Vidya has stepped out of the project
It’s seldom that Vidya Balan leaves a film midway. But recently she did step out of the biopic of the scandalous author and Malayali poetess Kamala Das. Vidya was playing the poetess’ character in the film titled Aami.

Although she had commenced her prep work, there was buzz in the recent past that Vidya might not do this biopic. And now her spokesperson has confirmed that Vidya has opted out of it as she and the director, Kamaluddin Muhammed (better known as Kamal) didn't see the film in the same way.
The spokesperson said, “Vidya respects the director and the entire team working on the film. However, Kamaluddin and Vidya had a different approach towards the film. Therefore, she opted out of the film in the most amicable and professional manner and any other reason being cited are untrue.”
The spokesperson also added that everyone knows this that Vidya loves getting into the skin of the character she is portraying. She likes spending time with her film’s director and writers to understand the insights, which wasn't happening this time. Hence, Vidya thought it’s better to separate ways.
Kamala Das was a true iconoclast who was known for her controversial and bold work and went on to embrace Islam some time before her death in 2009. She also changed her name to Kamala Surayya. So, when rumours of Vidya not being a part of this biopic started cropping up, there were reports that that Vidya had refused due to pressure from Shiv Sena.
However, her spokesperson has outright dismissed all other reasons and said 'the reasons were strictly professional'.
